About Marriann Nelson. . .
a Liliedahl-Certified Oil Painting Instructor
I have loved art since I was a young child. I came from a loving family that worked hard to just put food on the table. I basically had access to only a pencil and a paper that I drew with all the time. I lived out in the country and I loved to draw flowers and animals. I also loved to dance. I was given dance lessons and danced throughout my early life, and in college I toured with the dance team in Europe. I had a great love of dance which is a form of art —creative and expressive
I married at 19 and from then on, when I started having children, I devoted my life to my five children. The children had dance, theatre, singing, music lessons; among other things, they also had art lessons. I home schooled the children so they would have the opportunity to do as many things in the arts that would maybe later become a career for them. Two of my children were world champion dancers on the” Dancing With TheStars” show in 2007.
When my children were older and I had a little more time for myself I started taking proper art lessons. I was very fortunate to run into Johnnie early in my progression. Johnnie gave me a great foundation to start from rather than trying to relearn or break bad habits. I was afraid of portrait painting since all I had drawn was flowers and animals and only with pencil. Now, I not only paint landscapes and still life but I love to paint portraits!
I have studied intensely with Johnnie over the years, and have attended many of her workshops in Houston, sometimes for three weeks at a time. I still study her painting and theory DVD’s at home, while I walk on the treadmill and even when I am taking a bath.
Among other classes, I have finished the required 6 core classes. I have taken and passed the extensive written exam to test my knowledge of the subjects in these classes. I have also taught and been certified in teaching the Landscape, Still life, and Portrait classes by Liliedahl Studios.
I am very fortunate to have such a great mentor and privileged to study under Johnnie Liliedahl. Because of Johnnie’s 40 years of experience and knowledge that she has shared with me and others, I am privileged to teach as one of the certified teachers of the Liliedahl Fine Art Instructors.
Art is who I am! It is a pursuit toward excellence. It is a way of life for me. Art is creative. Art keeps me alive and interested. Art is never boring!
Everyday life is a new blessing. We get to choose a blank canvas and decide to paint our own lives by the choices we make. “It is important to receive. Then you have something to give.” I am grateful that when I was ready to receive, the teacher was there willing to give. Now I get to give back.
hoose your blank canvas today!
