About Sharon Gillenwater. . .
a Liliedahl-Certified Oil Painting Instructor
In
1980, while living in Fort Worth, Texas, Sharon saw a newspaper
ad which read "If you can hold a brush, I can teach you to paint."
Since painting had long been a desire of Sharon's, she immediately
replied to the ad and started lessons. Shortly after, Sharon and
her husband Ray moved to Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio, where
Sharon was re-employed with the Air Force. Unfortunately, due to
work and other commitments, she did not pick up a brush again until
1993.
Sharon started painting again in acrylics and watercolor, studying
with watercolorists Louise Jackson and Sue Scheewe, after which
she began teaching watercolor classes. Oil painting was always a
dormant passion and Sharon began studying and painting in oils,
as well, and eventually began teaching oil painting techniques.
When she discovered the Liliedahl School of Classical Oil Painting,
she knew this was the path she wanted to follow, to become a knowledgeable
fine art painting instructor. She is a proud graduate of the School,
where she received her instructor training, which included color
theory, landscapes, still-life, and portraits.
Sharon now resides in Knoxville, TN, where she teaches weekly classes
based on the principles acquired in the Liliedahl curriculum. She
also teaches at local retail art stores.
Sharon is a member of Oil Painters of America, Tennessee Artists
Association, Artists United, and the National Society of Decorative
Painters. She has taught at the Heart of Ohio Tole painting convention
(HOOT), Columbus Ohio, and Artists United in Atlanta, GA.
