BONUS CLIP1: Embedding String
In this demonstration mixed media artist Patricia Baldwin Seggebruch embeds string in natural beeswax to create a background for an encaustic collage. You learn to layer string to create depth in your collage and buff the finished piece to remove blooms and make your work shine. You can use the same technique to embed almost any object in an encaustic painting.
BONUS CLIP2: Shellac Burn
In these bonus clip from her video, Encaustic Collage Workshop, mixed media artist Patricia Baldwin Seggebruch teaches you to create intricate, unpredictable backgrounds for collage by setting your work on fire. Patricia coats her boards in shellac and burns them with a propane torch to produce organic texture effects. You learn to mix the shellac with pigments and metallic powder to vary the look of your backgrounds and how to control the burned effect by drying your shellac before igniting it.
